How would you describe the learning environment at Talent 100 and what would you consider the best part?

The wide range of resources you have at your disposal and the physical environment in-centres also provide a comfortable study. This is supplemented by really positive and encouraging people. I have studied with Talent since Year 8 so over 4 years and I have felt really supported through all my high school years!

What were you aiming to achieve by attending Talent 100 and how did we help you achieve that?

I wanted an external source of academic support as I felt that although I did ok in school, I could achieve more. Talent gave a more personalized learning experience that catered to my needs with smaller classes which school couldn’t give.

How did you find the resources?

There is a vast difference in quality of having a term’s worth of notes bound together when compared to your school notes. When studying, having the whole term’s worth of notes in a book made it more convenient to revise and as a forgetful person, the book probably saved me a lot of time from having to search for different sheets of paper and handouts.

Have you used the tutorials and if so how have they been beneficial?

the 1-1 tutorials is very beneficial as a form of extra support before any assessments I had. I could get my work checked over or ask any questions I had to fill any remaining gaps in my knowledge.

Have you tried our holiday programs? If so, how did they benefit your learning?

One of the major obstacles I face while learning is that when I get to the end of term I tend to forget what I’ve learnt at the beginning and I think the holiday programs are a good way to consolidate the entire term’s content especially before trials/yearlies. It also helped me pick out my strengths and weaknesses in each subject which I could then focus on revising more before a new term started.

How has your mentor’s teaching style helped you with your studying? (Why did their teaching style work for you?)

A teaching style my mentors had that really helped with my studying is self-paced learning. I didn’t feel any pressure to keep up with my peers as I sometimes would in school, and I could work at my own pace and ask my mentor for any clarification when needed.

I benefited a lot from a younger mentor sharing their recent high school experiences as it made me feel more comfortable because of the supportive environment my mentor created for us. No one was afraid to talk or ask any questions and we always had a lot of fun as a class. It actually made me look forward to tutoring every week instead of feeling like it was something I was obligated to do.

Can you share your number one study tip?

For Year 12: Definitely familiarize yourself with the types and range of questions they ask and find as many past paper questions as you can on areas you know are your weaknesses instead of sticking to textbook questions. The homework Talent gives is definitely another good source of questions to revise with. In general, don’t cram. Prepare thoroughly and build confidence.

If I could describe Talent-100 in one word, it would be:

Inspiring.
