Meet our Chatswood Student: Matthew

While you’re usually used to our staff and mentor blogs, we’ve decided to flip the switch so you can find out more about the students who actually study at Talent 100.

We can share their unique personalities and passions both in and outside of our classrooms.

This week we’ve been chatting to Matthew who is currently in Year 12, and will be sitting the HSC in just a few months!

Which Talent 100 centre do you study in?

When did you join Talent 100?

I joined Talent 100 at the beginning of Year 11, in 2019.

Subjects taken at Talent 100:

At the moment I am currently taking Maths Extension 1 and Chemistry.

Have you participated in any of our holiday programs, and if so how did they help you?

Yes. From last year at the beginning of Year 12, I have been doing the Fast Forward course for Chemistry and I have done all the holiday revision courses for Maths and Chemistry as well.

I have especially found the Fast Forward course really helpful because you go into the term pretty much having done all the content, and during the term you can focus on revising and consolidating your knowledge, and being able to apply the knowledge better, so this sets you up on the front foot ahead of everyone else.

What are some of your best study tips for Maths Extension 1?

What really works for me is going through questions because usually you will come across a few questions in each paper that you might find tricky, and then you are alarmed to that – then you know what you should work on!

For me, doing past questions or past exam papers really helps more so than just reading through the knowledge. This is because application is key rather than just understanding the knowledge.

How has our Exam Excellence Program helped you in your studies?

Yes, it has as well because there are quite a few things that relied upon knowing the Year 11 content really well, so this program helps refresh your memory and what you need to remember (in terms of preparing for exams.

What are your career aspirations after completing high school?

I am hoping to get into Medicine at either the University of Newcastle or the University of New South Wales.

If you could describe Talent 100 in two words, what would they be?

Quality teaching
