How would you describe the learning environment at Talent 100 and what would you consider the best part?

Talent 100 has an encouraging and welcoming learning environment: all of the mentors are very knowledgeable and are always happy to answer questions and give extra support where needed. The best part of Talent 100 is being able to gain knowledge and practice while simultaneously gaining extra motivation and confidence in an environment of great mentors and other students.

What were you aiming to achieve by attending Talent 100 and how did we help you achieve that?

By attending the maths classes at Talent 100 I have been able to improve my internal ranks by filling in gaps in my knowledge: Talent 100 covers each topic comprehensively from the basics to harder HSC style end-of-exam questions, making it easy to both find and fill in any weaknesses.

How did you find the resources?

The notes being bound in books by term make it easy to look back on previous topics for revision: it is extremely helpful to always have complete, quality notes to look back on compared to handwritten school notes. The notes begin straight away with exam style questions, giving you lots of practice.

Have you tried our holiday programs? If so, how did they benefit your learning?

The holiday programs provide a complete overview of the course in a matter of days including challenge questions, and have been extremely helpful during year 12, especially pre-trials as an efficient way to revise and make sure I had a good understanding of every part of the course.

How has your mentor’s teaching style helped you with your studying? (Why did their teaching style work for you?)

The mentors explain difficult concepts in ways that are easy to digest even if you haven’t yet been exposed to them at school, break down challenging questions step by step, and give strategies to approach similar questions in an exam setting. They are always encouraging and eager to answer any questions or help with any difficulties, which helps immensely in both improving marks and gaining confidence. Having a younger mentor has been very helpful: they are able to share not just knowledge and information but also personal strategies and exam techniques that they used to achieve their high results a few years prior.

The qualified teachers as mentors at Talent 100 are also extremely knowledgeable and are able to explain difficult topic areas simply, while providing their exam tips and advice from marking HSC papers. Having a qualified teacher has helped me improve my marks greatly.

My favourite class at Talent 100 has been Extension 2 maths with David Sadler. Despite starting the class a term late, I was able to catch up quickly and fill in any gaps in my knowledge due to David’s clear and engaging way of breaking down even the most challenging problems to make what is a daunting subject more approachable. There is also a great class environment which makes the subject more enjoyable.

Can you share your number one study tip?

Study smarter not harder by only focusing on areas you need to improve on. Also, always start earlier to limit stress later on.

What are your career aspirations after completing high school?

Studying engineering
